SOULFLY's CAVALERA On Next Album: 'It's Time To Shake Up The World'
May 12, 2003SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera recently told Glam-Metal.com that he has already written some material for the follow-up to last year's "3" CD, tentatively due at the end of 2004 through Roadrunner Records.
"The next CD is very exciting because, since we did what we did with 'Soulfly 3', to establish the band," Cavalera explained. " I feel that I'm back where I was right before SEPULTURA did 'Roots'. Which is time to shake up the world, it's time to turn the whole table upside down. Because now I think that the fans will be ready for that. We are an established band now, we have three albums. It's time to give the fans something that's just going to kick them in the ass. It's like wow!!! Max is back with something crazy again. I'll keep some of the formula and original trademarks, but I'll come up with something new too.
"The thing about SOULFLY is that there are no limitations," Max added. "There is the freedom of going… I wrote a new song, it's going to be on the next record, it was influenced by HELLHAMMER. It's going to be HELLHAMMER meets Max of SOULFLY. It's going to be kind of primitive sounding. Three notes the whole song, but it's amazing. I love it. I want to put it on the record because it's some thing that people aren't expecting. But, I can do it, I'm into that kind of music and I know how to write that kind of music. And then we go in the completely opposite direction. We have some world music with instruments that people would have no idea. Like Northern African instruments blended with guitars, sitars. It will sound like a new version of PETER GABRIEL's 'Passion'. But, ten times more updated. Those are just some of the first ideas for the new record. I'm sure that when the tour is over and I go home, all the other ideas are going to come in and we'll have another record full of ideas."
